DNF Review: Firstlife by Gena Showalter

As I go along in my reading journey, and I read more novels... I have been much more lenient on putting them aside. Most of the time, I will try to come back to them... but there are a few special books like this one that I will never be finishing because I just couldn't handle it. This is book is just absolutely terrible. Tenley is a cardboard cutout special snowflake that is absolutely whiny, bitchy, and overwhelmingly annoying as all hell. I will admit this concept is intriguing as all hell yet the writing itself includes choppy, short sentences that are over descriptive and filled with proper nouns that make absolutely no sense until pages later when they are "explained" and even then you are still completely confused. Ten has an interesting quirk... she likes to count and I enjoyed that aspect and the concept itself.... But a cool concept and one intriguing character (Bow) cannot make up for a love triangle that you can see from two thousand miles away and just plain bad writing.... I did, however, really enjoy the email conversations and wish more of the book had that style because I may have continued with it for a little longer. Because the snark and sass was amazing in that section. I tried so hard to like this one and it's seriously a cool concept, yet sadly another case of great idea but a failed execution. I cannot recommend this to anybody. Don't waste your time with this one.
